My brothers, my sisters, those who would attempt to deny the genetic entanglement that orders us as a common species, I write to you of open heart and sound mind to explain where I stand on certain things and why your stance, as mine, is so impetuous yet so important. I may lack the formal education that would otherwise initiate me into the tribe with say on such matters, but I tell you, I do not fear the repercussions of speaking with the authority of common sense in a matter so easily understood by those willing to accept reality instead of the mass-marketed fairy tale we have been exposed to since childhood. The light of reason has the ability to dissipate even the most repeated lies if one bothers to peer into it. I do not put forth a conspiracy theory or an extreme and well hidden agenda; I do not present any informing of fact which those of us willing to accept responsibility for our own actions have not already examined. What I do put forward is an extreme stance, a severe position, that those of us with any sense of accountability to future generations should consider a minimal effort to ensure that we do not make the same mistakes as the baby-boomers and gluttonously consume the storehouse on our deathbeds as hard times approach our children.
The subject I am writing about is anthropological global warming. Here we are with a virtual mountain range as large as the Himalayas laughing in the face of doubt and yet we still have those who would deny reality. I use the word deny because it is a matter of picking and choosing the words of a tiny fraction of fringe scientist, science fiction writers, and economists over the words of the literal tsunami of scientists involved in the so-called hoax that so clearly indicates our very lifestyles as the culprit behind the harmfully changing climate. Let us call these deniers for what they are; selfish and weak. Selfish meaning they would rather hold onto their creature comforts at the expense of untold millions and mass species extinction than make simple changes in their lives to improve the situation. Weak because they are too terrified to confront the adjustments necessary to improve the outcome for all of us. Like spoilt children on the threshold of puberty unwilling to give up their toys for the hard work and self improvement essential to survive in a shifting world they are plainly not strong enough to adapt and overcome. They are weak. What I advocate is that you spare them no quarter. If you encounter them in social situations, media feedback, public engagements, or even on a personal level you should call them out as selfish and weak. Those two adjectives are necessary to rightfully scold them into resuscitating their own reason and common sense. If they don?t get past their own selfishness and weakness, or at least accept the fact that you will provide them no rest on the subject, then you are probably better off without their subtle influences in your life. Whatever you do, do not appease them, do not make peace with them on the subject and do not allow any shred of armistice in their argument. What is at risk is far too great to coddle the egos of the self-important. Hopefully, if enough of us hold true to this conviction of confrontation, public opinion will sway enough to make even Exxon rethink their position on the scientific findings of our generation. Otherwise, if we fail at making change by using the humiliation of reality against the deniers, we are eventually coming to ugly war with dire consequences. Either a war against the self-regulating system of life on this planet, which we will lose, or a war against these very people, which they will lose. Think of the public humiliation as a token of mercy, an intellectual attempt to get them to change their ways before a physical attempt is all that remains. Whatever happens, those who are enlightened, who happen to be in the majority, will realize that too much is at stake to casually allow our entire civilization to be destroyed by the selfishness and weakness of a contemptuous minority. If we cannot coax those who would hamper improvement by academic means, someone will eventually resort to other means. Ask all of your friends, colleges, and family members, in an open forum if you can, where they stand on the subject. At first present them with facts and if that does not succeed, humiliate them with the reality of their shortfalls; call them too selfish to change to help others and remind them that they lack the constitution necessary to strive for greatness in life. Spread the word ? from now on when we encounter the deniers we call them for what they are: selfish and weak. They just aren?t strong enough to handle reality so there is no harm in pointing that out publically. Who knows, it may actually make them better people. Spread the word. If you really want to make a difference here is a way you can. |
